By OnlinePrintout Team•4 min read
When you order prints online, you see options like "75 GSM", "85 GSM", or "100 GSM Bond". Most people just click the cheapest one. But choosing the wrong paper can make your Thesis look cheap or your Flyer feel flimsy.
What is GSM?
GSM stands for Grams per Square Meter. It is a measure of paper density (thickness). Higher GSM = Thicker, Stiffer Paper.
1. 75 GSM (The "Standard" Paper)
This is your standard office photocopy paper (e.g., JK Copier, Trident). It is bright white, smooth, and perfect for everyday use.
- Feel: Normal. Flexible.
- Best For: Study Notes, Rough Drafts, Bills, Tickets.
- Price: Cheapest (₹0.60/page).
2. 100 GSM Bond (The "Premium" Paper)
Also called Executive Bond or Royal Executive Bond. This is noticeably thicker and stiffer than standard paper. It has a premium "snap" when you turn the page.
- Feel: Thick, stiff, professional. No bleed-through (ink from one side doesn't show on the other).
- Best For: PhD Thesis, Master's Dissertation, Resumes, Legal Documents.
- Price: Premium (₹2.00 - ₹3.00/page).
University Rule: 90% of universities (DU, JNU, AIIMS) require 100 GSM Bond paper for final thesis submission.
3. Glossy Paper (The "Photo" Paper)
Usually 130 GSM or 170 GSM. It has a shiny coating that reflects light. Colors pop vibrantly on this paper.
- Best For: Posters, Flyers, Color Charts, Photographs.
- Avoid For: Text-heavy documents (Glare makes it hard to read).
